my disco has a bent push rod, the one nearest to the windscreen. does this indicate that the timing is out as she wont start, and will a bent push rod make a clunking sound when trying to bump her, all started when i rolled her and she supped the engine oil through turbo. many thanks

tell us this aint a serious qs:eek:

i'd like to say it aint so, but i have never been inside the engine before, and looking at the slightly bent push rod i wouldn't of thought that it would make so much clanking, i am just trying to rule out the big end bearings. will it just be the fuel pump that has slipped out of line or will it all need timing up, in wich case i may as well put a fresh belt on.

means that your cam belt has jumped on its teeth, rip the front off and replace, but also remove all the pushrods and check for straightness - they normally bend 4 at a time

any diesel that has been running out of control on its own sump oil is normally "rubber ducked"-think you need to consider a whole engine rebuild or replacement engine-it has at minimum over revved and over heated.Likely to be a lot of damage-sorry.

ok, thanks for your advice i will put a new timing belt on. there is only one bent push rod, the one nearest windscreen, i will replace all the rods though, i just need her to see me through winter, by spring i will have my garage built and i will completely rebuild her.

you might be lucky-how hard did it rev, when it was dieseling and did it stop suddenly and quickly ie something jammed up?Wish you luck mate, rough at chrimbo.

it revved its bollox off and kicked out loads of black smoke, the oil burning. by the time i jumped out it cut off, it wasn't a sudden stop, it died out, then i tried startin her again but she was just knocking.

will it be the big end bearings. i'll give anything ago. i might look for a cheap 4x4 to get me through winter coz me vans and pickup are no good in snow. plus its winter and i need to be out hunting
