Word of warning....your motor won't go much faster with a different filter but it _will_ be a lot noisier.

It depends on the model of your motor, the breather has been through a lot of variations from a simple slot on the S2 through to full PCV systems on some I've seen for export. It might be worth taking some pictures of what you've already got.

I'm looking to do the exact opposite and replace my stupid big cone filter with the original air filter but I've got a funny carb setup...

It's an mod 2 1/4 petrol fitted with a weber carb, looking to clear some space up to fit a bigger battery and I don't feel much for the big ugly looking filter in place at the mo. can it really get any louder lol. Read somewhere that you can. Fit a ordinary carbon filter direct to the hose on the cap. I,ll post a couple of pics tonight when I get in.
Cheers

Pictures would still be good there's a few different way the breather can be wired up over the years. Mine was originally a weber with a pipe from the breather to the bottom of a T with a Fat side going to the intake pipe and a narrower side going to a take off from the manifold adaptor.

Some people get rid of all that and instead just fit a long pipe to the breather. I found that that caused the rocker to leak and the car to smell when standing, I've not got excessive blow by. Since refitting the oil has been a lot cleaner too as the manifold pressure sucks a lot of the "bad gasses" out of the oil keeping it clean.

Also if you get rid of the pipe from the intake to the manifold you will be running a tad richer as the carb is usually set up to compensate for this "leak" - not a huge difference though.

You can get a pancake filter or a K&N I think that goes straight onto an ICH not sure how much room that leaves though....

I personally like the oil filter. Have you got a winch or something needing a big battery. I drove round for nearly a month with my alternator completely disconnected before I realised and my std size (modern Bosch) battery was still full, summer though so not much headlights...
