Can anyone tell me what the body tub sliders would protect you from? Maybe I'm being thick (not for the first time), but I can't think what benefit they could provide.

They're to make sure that when a tree does hit your side the whole side is pushed inwards for a nice clean dent

Hey I wasn't saying I was on board with them!
These are Mill services ones, albeit from a few years ago, they have a very heavy duty tube in the centre to brace the already strong slider, the OP seems to have just 2 flat tabs to brace rather than go to the trouble Mill services have, also the tube bends look far sharper than mill's, almost 90 degrees unless the original pic is deceptive....
Mill services did stop producing after I bought mine in 2007 ish (I think due to ill health or that was duty rumour) and somebody bought the jigs etc and carried on afaik.
