Hi guys
I've recently cash my savings plan in at work so looking at buying a Roamerdrive as well as a few other things for the 2a, anyone else got one and what are they like to fit please just so i can have 3 knobs to play with :D

Ive never fitted one, I've done a few Fairy overdrives before but I can't imagine it being much harder to fit.
 
Not fitted one, had a fairey unit some year ago, it was good as the original 2 litre diesel engine was underpowered, so having the option to split gears was useful on the hills.
I would hold of buying one and ask on the S2forum first, someone will have one, and hopefully give you first hand experience.
Tbh I think its a lot of money, and the way the economy could be headed I would want to keep that money in my hands.
 
Not a 2A I know, but I've not long bought and fitted one to a S3 petrol (about a month ago). Really easy to fit with clear instruction manual and it only took 2 or 3 hours to do. Everything needed came in the crate except the mainshaft nut tool, but picked one up on ebay pretty cheaply.
I think it makes a big difference to how it drives. Only fettling required was a slight bend in the lever to clear the gearstick.
I'm quite happy and although expensive, I do think it was worth it. Worth shopping around as there seemed to be quite a difference between highest and lowest prices on the web.
 
I have fitted a Roamerdrive to an early Defender and it was easy, I did have to panel beat the transmission tunnel to clear the linkage, but apart from that pretty simple.
 
I fitted a Roamerdrive to my S3. Instructions are good. Trust me, if I can fit one anyone can .
Probably took me 4 hours including tea breaks.

Really pleased with it - transforms the vehicle’s drivability (2.25d)
 
Just had an email from Syncro gearboxes saying the Roamerdrive will be sent out next week as they are waiting for it to arrive from thier suppliers so i take it its coming from the manufacturers in Canada :(

I think that keeping zero stock is the way of the world nowadays.

This old guy who ran a parts business once told me many years ago, if you have not got it then you cannot sell it, he was not cheap but he always had the parts you needed.

yeah a lot of companies actively avoid having lots of money tied up in inventory and rely on ‘just in time’ deliveries - which is why we are currently screwed when there is no one to deliver stuff!

I think you might find that they will be coming from Craven Arms . Home of Britparts , who are now the main dealers for Roamerdrive .

Aww right ok, when i was looking on the Syncro site it said will be dispatched with 2-3 days so was expecting it later in the week then i got the email
 
They are an easy fit, just follow the destructions to the letter. One thing: I'm not sure if this is mentioned in the destructions but in case it isn't: there is a little steel band/ring over the gearchange nubbin on the back of the unit. Whatever you do, leave that (wired on?) ring on until the overdrive is bolted to the transfer box. If you take it off and the nubbin gets moved something can move and fall out of position. Sorry, I can't remember the details, it's been eleven years since I fitted it, but I was warned about this potential problem by Rocky Mountain Spares. Apparently it is a real mechanical disaster as the parts are extremely difficult to refit and RMS simply shipped the OD back to Canada for it to be fitted again. Don't let that put you off though, the offending part is held in place with grease and as long as you don't move the shifter nubbin you should be ok.
