I'm thinking about fitting side steps to the FL, if we ever get it back from the garage! However they all come with rivet screws, one chap can even provide the rivet spanner tool thingy for an extra £10. My question is do I need the rivet spanner thingy or can I use a normal torque wrench, suppose another question should be what should the torque wrench be set to?

Yes you will need the tool,or you can make one yourself if ya can be bothered, best to find the locations that your gonna use [might have ta scape away under seal] and fit un compress riv-nuts first, takes a effort to compress them tight, try an use stainless bolts to fix them and er smidge er anti seize paste, and after fitting brush some wax-oil or similar ta seal it, took me an afternoon. . . .oh un best oh luck. . . .:)

Make one, blinkin'-eck! So a torque wrench or long handled spanner wont do the job? What's the difference between the tools?

the tool is just to compress the rivnut into the hole. once there compressed they dont come out and you just screw yer bolt in as normal;)

You can just be rough and use the bolt with a big washer on but if the rivnut starts to spin as yer compressin it yer buggered!:p ;)

Yes as mondo say's you could use large washers un fiddle [lot er hassle] using the tool is better, and as mondo says if they start spining yer fooked, you will have to try un drill em out or punch them through, then youll find the hole is to big, then youll have to go ta next size up, then youll have ta drill all yer holes on yer runners, smirk. . . .bin there done that, gota laugh when a simple job turns into a nightmare. . . .:)

£10 is a good price for a Rivnut tool. - I think mine cost me £45! (but then it is fur a professional;))

After tryin for 3 hours to fit my steps without a Rivnut tool i took it to a local independent who charged me £25.00 and it took him less than an hour and they feed and watered me. Bargain

That's quite steep, I was thinking of going for one of the aftermarket ones for around £130-60. I need to save the money as I also need a full dog guard, rubber boot liner, Rubber footwell mats and front/rear light protection.

This is all getting very expensive!
