Had an incident on the motorway recently when someone rammed my wheel and smashed the front end of their vehicle, probably drifting out of their lane as they rocketed past me at high speed as I was chugging along sedately at 50 or so on the inside lane..

As they disappeared after impact and flying debris from their vehicle I noticed the characteristic loss of tyre pressure and pulled over to assess damage .

Long story shortened..

I have a bent rim, tyre seems sound as a pound, no sign of tyre damage.. But efforts at the tyre fitters to bang the rim back while admirable considering the facilities and tools, not able to correct it..

So was wondering where I could maybe access an engineers shop or something to deal with it properly..

Save me having to shell out for a new set of rims..

Looks like mild steel so I guess its just needing a bit of blacksmithery basically..

A new rim isn't that expensive ?



 
As well as safety of the damaged rim, repairing the damaged one would be false economy. A new rim would be cheaper than paying for a repair. Have you had the Landy checked to make sure there is no damage to the steering and suspension if it was hit hard enough to damage a steel rim?
 
As some one who has live/worked in a rocky place may years sorting steel wheels with a ding on the edge of the rim is no big deal, done many a time. Tire off, lots of heat and work back into shape. As you say a Blacksmith job.
Check wheel runs true before you start repair by spinning around and observing for any wobble on the inside undamaged rim.

Have you got some pictures of the damage?

If minor enough then should be easy enough to hammer out. If just a standard land rover steel rim then there are hundreds of them sitting about the place as people have swapped them I have a set of 5 sat in my garage awaiting sale and there are lots available on ebay/facbook/etc. would certainly be cheaper to replace with a second hand rim and pay for repair if you cannot do it yourself.
 
Thanks for the replies gents. My concern regards getting a new rim is that basically I would struggle to find one that matches the other 3 on the vehicle so it would necessitate a full set.. considerable expense..

Well perhaps I could try and put a pic up but what I was asking for was if anyone knew a local blacksmith or engineering metalworker type where I could take it. Rather pay a ton for a fix on what I have, than half a K for a full set of second hand rims and tyres or whatever off ebay.

What rim have you got??
If it’s a landrover rim just get 1 they are all the same.

No matter what you do to the old rim I would not trust it. Probally be buckled,out of true & hard to balance.

Or fit the spare. Get a scabby rim & cover it over with a tyre cover
 
@drex , stop faffing about and just buy a new wheel and tyre. You really need to be thinking of the safety of others when driving on the road and of those you are driving. You'd also do well in closely inspecting every hub component on the corner hit by the other car. It takes some considerable force to **** up a Landy wheel.
