This fault came up today for no reason. It has stopped the one touch function working and when I close the window by keeping the button pressed as normal the motor doesn't appear to cut out and it makes a hammering noise. I have tried to lower the window and raise it a couple of times but the banging clearly is going to do some damage. Any ideas?

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED THE "COMMON" WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACING :(

to get the window set you will need to give it a helping hand while someone operates switch. and it will get worse, mine wont set at all now so its 50 quid for a new mechanism!

Definately the window regulator that is knackered, this sounds identical to what happened to mine, got a replacement off E-Bay for £40, took about 1hr to fit. Good luck.

My driver window (and therefore RH as per this issue) just started doing the same thing - any pointers getting the door card off? assuming I have to replace the 'regulator' (is this an electrical component or a piece of metal that sets the window)?

Its a bit of metal and dont forget the hidden screw under the tweeter panel when taking the door card off.

:D:DLook at this Replacement of door latch 4.0/4.6/p38A) follow steps 1 to 5 then lower the window till you can see the where the regulator fixes to the glass, support the glass with a piece of wood (so it doesn't just drop when you separate it from the regulator) remove the R-clips from from the end off the regulator arms which hold the ball joints in the plastic connectors on the glass, prise out the balls.
Unplug the multi-plug on the motor and tape back out of the way.
Then very carefully drill out the rivets (may be bolts if someone has replaced it before(mine went back in with rivets as I didn't have bolt at the time)To make it easier next time) remove the complete mechanism and unbolt the motor.
On your new mechanism you will get a brass bearing for the end of the motor spindle to sit in, check first whether this will fit over the end off the spindle if it doesn't (as in my case) then either open out the centre with a drill or fine files and then polish.

Fitting is the reverse.
Don't forget to grease motor spindle and where the ball joints slide in the plastic parts on the glass.

:D:DHope this helps:D:D

Window regulator gone. You can temporarily get rid of the window not set message by holding a 2" block of wood at the top of the frame and closing the window on to it during the down/up window set proceedure. As long as you do not use the one touch feature to close the window you will not get the message again.

Thanks all - I found a VERY comprehensive guide on replacing this part on LandroverGeeks - with pics and all sorts. The bloke who did it obviously had documenting time! - anyway be good to get rid of the message until the new one arrives (ordered this morning) then I can set about trying to replace :) - one week in with the car and so far Airbag fault, window reg failure and airbags need replacing. Loving the Landrover :)
Datatek - using that method is that where the window will assume its stop point is from then on? or does that literally just get rid of the message, tricking the sensor into thinking thats the stop?

It just tricks the sytem, the window will still go up to the top, just don't use the one touch system.

Dont suppose anyone knows the size of bolts to replace the rivets off hand do they? just so I can grab a handful from halfrauds or somewhere can't be that long, but M6/M8 kinda size? Mucho thanks.

I used M5 stainless that I happened to have laying around with some washers and nylock nuts. Nuts on the outside or the ends of the bolts will foul the mechanism:)
