Hi friends, just did a few tests on my battery (regarding the 2-4 day drain), and it is indeed as most of you experts out there predicted, the rf receiver for my remote control. By the way, got a 1997 P38 4.6 HSE.

Just rang up my local LR dealer, and he quoted me £122.00 + VAT .... so £150!!!!! ...... is this right, otherwise, is there anywhere else that sells this thing for a reasonable price!

Any info would be much appreciated.....

i BELIEVE YOU CAN UNPLUG THE RF RECIEVER FROM UNDER THE BACK WINDOW.

THIS DOES OBVIOUSLY EFECT THE DISTANCE THAT THE REMOTE WORKS AT BUT THE REMOTE WILL STILL WORK IF CLOSE TO DRIVER DOOR.
:)

cheers mate ............... have unplugged the receiver already, and have left for a couple of days, and the battery has not run down at all ............ that was my test !! ........ but no matter how close I am to the door, the remote does not work, so I use my access code to start engine, so am just gonna replace the receiver to a new one ...... but 150 quid!!!!!!....... thats just silly !!!

When Ever I Need A Landy Part I Go On Internet And Look For Scrap Yards That Are Stripping Range Rovers.( Theres Loads Of Them)

Also Try Ebay.

You would hope so,but not all parts dept's are awake - The one you need is YWY 500170.

I fitted a SLABS Ecu to a Disco last week, brand new, from a main dealer,(not my usual one) it was 2 yrs old when I took it out the box.Looked at the p/n, again an out of date number. The garage I was doing it for didnt care, glad it wasnt going on my car !

dont worry, if I fork out the 150 quid, which I suspect I will, I will make sure its the right part!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11. That said, the people in the Hunters (Guildford) parts department are very helpful, especially one of them ... always helps if you stick with one fella in these places.

Just one question ............ will I be able to fit this receiver in myself, or has it got to be done at LR?

easy enough to fit yourself.
bolt of, bolt on, plug out, plug in.

have you thought about putting a hidden switch in the circuit.
say under the wheel arch.
this would break into the live supply to the recirver so that when not in use all you have to do is flick the switch and the reciever will allow you to use your remote.

a switch will onl;y cost 2 quid.

good luck

cheers brookediamond, I did think about doing that, but all the hassle if you forget to flick the switch etc etc, but you are right, worth considering given the cost. Mind you, its a one-off £150 (famous last words!).........

Ive replaiced mine on my 2000 model for the new version.

It is expensive but if you get it from the dealer you know it is the correct RF reciever that was only brought out in 2004, plus if the battery still drains after a few days you can get your money back.

Just went and bought the updated version, so hoping alls well from now on. Should be, as I had the old one unplugged for the week preceeding the new one being fitted - £122 + vat
