So, I took it upon myself to change the clutch/clutch fork etc. Wasn't as bad as I had feared, seat box out and engine crane through the door. Did the master/slave at the same time, and got a good opportunity to poke about at bits of chassis that hadn't seen the light of day in a long time. All back together and quite relieved until I gave it a quick road test - everything works fine, except reverse!

All forward gears, high, low lock etc work perfectly. Reverse does work, but only for about 2 metres, before it feels like someone has whacked the handbrake on and I come to an abrupt stop. If I then drive forward, I can reverse again...

So the question is, what horrible thing might I have done/done badly in putting everything back together that might cause this? Nothing looks out of place, no funny noises, just odd, limited reversing. It's a 300tdi with R380 - everthing standard. Any thoughts appreciated!

Been adjusting the hand brake ?
So, I adjusted on the drum back in November before the MOT and haven't touched that side of it since. But might have 'adjusted' the cable in the process of refitting the seat box/handbrake lever? I'll try giving that a go when it stops raining. Would be nice if it turns out to be something simple like that! Thank you
