You brake lights do work though don't they?:p:rolleyes::D

Yes, they're working fine. You press the brake pedal and the bonnet opens then the horn plays the Dukes of Hazard tune. That's correct, right?

If i hadn't fixed your problem within half hour my boss would have me guts for garters! :D

Now i ran it on top of the chassis rail in plastic conduit by the brake pipe so i can continue welding in the future, and trace any wiring easily, i suggest you do the same.

By the way:

0.00V - 0.03V = means nothing!

Sincerely, you wouldn't believe how inexperienced I was with electricity and wiring before this thread. Questions and frazzled eyebrows is the only way I learn anything, mostly.

Getting that loom out of the chassis rail would definitely be a good way to go and would be surprised if Land Rover don't build this into future models!

Waiting for one more part and the weekend before proceeding. Pics and a run-down (might help another novice down the road) will be delivered.

If you cant fix it! drive up to me i'll fix it for yer for nothing as long as yer switch is ok!

Thanks Tuneless, I might take you up on that one day. Always good to know there's help around the corner, even if they do appear to have a shotgun behind the Landy seats :D

IT'S ALIVE, ALIVVVVVVE!!!!!!!!!!

Just finished running the bypass and guess what? It only bloody damn well works.

Thanks for everyone's help. Couldn't now see what I'm demolishing in reverse without you :D

For future reference (in case it helps anyone else):

  1. Realised that wire going from reverse light switch to bulb was probably buggered, most likely chaffed inside the chassis rail loom. But power going to the switch was ok. So, after much multimeter testing, confusing results, and advice from here, decided to attempt a bypass.
  2. Ran a 16.5A wire (more than ample rating) from the reverse light switch (cased in convoluted split sheath pipe) along the top of the chassis rail, straight to the reverse light bulb.
  3. Also swapped the reverse light switch itself because mine was broken - don't forget the locking nut or the switch could snap off inside the gearbox, as mine had done (fault of one of the previous owners.)
  4. Double checked bulb.
  5. Double checked earth coming from bulb holder.
  6. Switched on ignition, stuck it in reverse.
  7. Voila!
All the best.
