Here's one I've never heard before. Fitted a dascam front and rear on my freelander. Got to the point where I had to connect the single red wire to the reverse bulb connection for power to the rear camera lights. Found out which one was the live wire cut it and connected all 3 to a connector. Straight forward? Nope. Reverse lights stopped working..couldn't figure it out. Next morning off came the wheel and wheel arch liner. It had to be the reverse switch. Sure enough there was the female end swinging in the breeze.i assumed it had come off. Put my hand round the back of the clutch. For at least half an hour I couldn't find the switch. No connections..nothing.. eventually felt something turn . So I kept turning. Out came the switch ...but rather than a connector there was a rubber bung shoved in the end if it. ...then I realised that when I located the female coming down to the switch there was insulation tape hanging off. Then I realised after a quick test the switch had been hard wired to appear to be working and taped up The actual plunger on the switch when turned upside down ...fell out. Shot to bits. It had seemingly worked for 2 years only to find that it had never been connected in the first place. Through the whole 2 years ive had it. Ironic that the day they stopped working was the day I needed to connect the live wire to the live of the reversing lights. Long story I know , but it just goes to show that what you see isn't all that it appears to be.
