I have an automatic disco and it has a weak reverse gear. This is particularly so when trying to reverse on a hill or raised track. What could be the problem? Does it have anything to do with the gear box?

I have a steep drive & used to have to boot it for the thing to go up without struggling, nowadays i just select low range & she goes up no problems:eek:

depends as with auto the torque convertor ,delivers little torque at idle (which people describe as slipping)and more as revs increase ,its not uncommom for clutch pack to slip but shows in blackening and burning of oil

Forward gears change up smoothly. I actually got another experience last evening when I packed at a hilly area. I could not move forward when I wanted to later. Even locking the diff could not help.
