Just had recon box put in 110 td5. New clutch & flywheel fitted at same time. Done about 30 miles. But hard to select reverse gear- just doesn't want to slot in without brute force. All other gears ok and no nasty sounds. Anyone know what might be the problem? Thanks.

Does reverse gear have a baulk ring? I didn't think that reverse had a syncro.

Anyway, ignoring that, from memory when I rebuilt my gearbox there are some adjustments/shims that you need to fit to the gear lever housing. 2 in total, 1 for 5th gear and 1 for reverse - these are spring loaded plungers, possibly these haven't been done correctly?

It slots into reverse fine when engine is off. Makes me think clutch issue might be it?

all land rovers drag when clutch is depressed to some extent with good system you can make it better but never cure it completely ,we experimented with different clutches and slave and master cylinders with a 90 with t/box off ,hence the need for not allways going into rev or 1st first time even with good clutch but you might expect 1st to be a little difficult like rev ,r380 use baulk rings and synchro hence it been behind 5 th gear , when you fit new baulk rings you cant allways be 100% of how they will work ,often they will bed in some times if they dont they have to be replaced, the dor teeth on rev tend to suffer more wear on dog teeth which is the main reason rev gears have to be replaced,it doesnt seem to happen to other gears , this may be the cause ,if you put a couple of hundred miles on it and it doesnt seem to be improving it have to be repaired or replaced
