Have you checked your transfer box ecu under the passenger seat (RHD)? You can get at it from the back of the seat by removing the duct under the seat then open it up and check for burning.

I had a similar issue with mine (apart from it being petrol) and it would just hit the limiter and not change up until I took my foot off slightly.
Good shout:)

Ok rev limiter don't know but I can rev mine to 5000 rpm so there is no rev limiter at 4000 rpm .
apart from first gear all gear changes are around 3000 rpm unless I floor it and third to fourth changes at around 4000rpm
You can hear the gears and watch the The rpm on yours 1,2,3,4 and around 50 mph it should lock the TQ and the revs will drop about 500rpm so check .

The only thing I can think it your getting to third then at 50 your TQ it locking up if you were stuck in third or choose third when the car reaches around 4000 rpm your at the top speed of that gear and that's all you got .
So can you hear gear changes and watch the revs drop on each change are you getting all four and then lock up or only three??

Just some feedback and thoughts for you.

Pretty sure lock up only occurs in 4th above 50ish mph...

Lock up won't occur in 3rd regardless of speed

Lock up occurs in third at about 40mph on the P38 diesel if held in third, I use it often on slow ascents as it's more economical than running in 4th unlocked.

Thanks data I thought it was in d drive its third 3 doh

But do get what I'm thinking he's going up to 3 rd and that's it until he eases off the gas and pushes again a fault of some kind .

Maybe selector cable it tight in not in Sync with the selector .

In D you should feel/hear 5 shifts, the 5th being TC lock up at 50 ish mph, there is no lock up on 3rd unless it holds in that gear.

Ah Yes, if you hold 3rd it will lock up, standard D Shift pattern won't lock up in 3rd!

It will if the hill is steep enough and long enough ;)
That just means it has down shifted to third and stayed there, as I said held in third the TC locks up it will do it whether it is held manually or as a result of the box staying in third on a climb:)

You see another riddle you say D its a downshift it still locks in third in D

But the only way its going to do it is on very steep hill and if you hit the hill and you had not reached 4 already in D then it can't downshift if its already in third gear so

It can lock it 3 or D weather it has to downshift or not:)

You are talking in riddles again. D only means the box is free to shift through all 4 gears as it sees fit, in D it will down shift to third on kick down or on an incline, does it regularly on my run back from shopping and the hills are not that steep, even does it on the autoroute when cruising at 70mph, if it stays in 3rd for more than about 30 seconds the torque convertor locks up.
