Hi,
Seeing as I got such a great response to my stalling issue, thought it might be worth seeing if you can all help with this one:

The rev counter on my '96 3.9 Discovery motor is very intermittent. Some times it works, some times it doesn't. The speedo always works, but the rev counter doesn't.

Any ideas?

Jack

check wiring to alternator?
buttin in here lorri, is the white/black thin wire to alternator,
the one wiv both male & female spade terminals,
the wire to check ?

as it happens, mine are not connected nor does me rev counter work as I fitted (made to fit) a Volvo alternator about the same time as rev counter stopped ?

oh, 93 J plate 200 disco DTi

ahh! it should be those wires. You'll need to check the terminals 'W' is tachometer / revcounter.

Is the TDi the same? I dunno.

Mine did same it was said wires on alternator cleaned and reattached been fine since

bodged the wires to fit the volvo alternator,
works just fine, but nowhere to fit the white/black wire so.... LOL...

*note to self*
fit the bloody new alternator you bought months ago.. :)

Hi,
Thanks. Pulled the black and white wire off the single spade fitting (there is only one, not two), crimped the female terminal, rubbed down the male spade and re-attached. I'll take it for a run later to see how it works.
Cheers

Sometimes the alternator doesn't have the obvious fitting and you have to "make" a W terminal.

The thick wire is the power wire, that's obvious, and usually the brown/yellow is the alternator lamp. The other wire is the tacho signal, and this often connects through a suppressor also.

If you get stuck jack just get some pics up :)

Cheers!
