The rev counter isn't working on my 300tdi, after searching I have made sure the wire is connected to the alternator but any ideas what the output from the alternator should be at this point? Can I check it with a meter?

Spray the back of the alternator with a good dose of WD40 or similar. Worked for me.

What Steviecops says .. take the connector off, I replaced it, they get crudded up, corrode and don't pass current. Easier to replace than clean, IMHO! ;)

Has it just stopped working? If so carry a set of jump leads as this was first sign my alternator packed up all together.

Well I've only had it a month and it hasn't worked in that time.

I just replaced the connector and no joy :(

With the wire disconnected I am getting 0.36 volts at the terminal at tickover, connect the wire and I get 0.064 volts, quite a drop. Any ideas?
