Had a stripped thread on my fuel pressure regulator when installing new crush type gasket.

Helicoiled the thread, is there a reason I can't reuse this gasket, yes I know its been crushed but I can't think of a reason it won't still work?

Guess I'll find out a few miles on..

the surfaces are machined flat..my brain is finding it hard to understand why it won't work haha
guess there is a loss of pressure

How flat is flat?
Machined surfaces will only seal together where they touch. Liquid under pressure finds very small gaps to go through hence gaskets that deform to touch both surfaces to effect the seal.
Slip guages that ring together may be flat enough (before deforming them under bolt loads) to seal but everything else needs a gasket of some sorts.
