Hi Guys
I'm due to collect a left hand drive (LHD) model from the UK in a fortnight and drive to to the south of France. I have been told that the unit does not have power steering (PS) so my Dad has me trawling the net for info about the ease of retrofitting PS (should we be able to source the parts!)

Could you confirm if it's possible, and if so, what would the degree of difficulty be?

If you feel there are any parts that we may overlook please feel free to provide as much info as you want. I don't want to ask too much of you lot but your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions yourself, please feel free to write back

EDIT: It's a 2.5L Diesel engine

I'm afraid that plenty of people go on a forum, read about a bit, cant find exactly what they're after and then post a question asking for some information.

I'm going to be quite upfront and say that once I've got the info I'm after I'm going to **** off. I don't own the Land Rover and I've no inclination to try an integrate into the community first.

I bear no bones that I'm asking for something for nothing.

I hope that someone can point me in the direction of a kit/link or tell me something outright. I'm not the most mechanical person either.

EDIT: That sounds terrible and I don't want to start off on the wrong foot. I'm not trying to be rude.

I used to have a 110 with no power steering.. I had no problems at all and never needed it.

I guess justification would be that it will be a day to day vehicle and driven by different members of the family. It's not just for one user going off road from time to time.

Currently adding power steering to mine. Mainly because the new engine has a pas pump and I couldn't be arsed bypassing it. Can't promise this will help. You'll need a pas pump fitted to the engine and the drive belts to run it, header tank, left hand 4 bolt pas box and lhd hoses. Not sure howuch difference there is between rhd and lhd boxes, youight be able to flip the drop arm around or it might be completely wrong. Pirtek could make the hoses or perhaps modify rhd ones. header tank should be easy... It it were rhd is say easy but lhd itight be difficult/expensive to find/make the parts. Good luck :)

Thanks for the info there, will google the Pirtek name.
This is new to me but I guess we need a pump, a reservoir and a PAS steering box too. Just wondering if different or custom, brackets are needed for a LHD engine setup

brackets are the same - just pipework is different
PAS box has to be left hand drive specific

Just drove the Defender down to the south of France. Towing a trailer wasn't fun and the whole trip took about 23hrs (London to Nimes)

Now to see about getting rid of this MOD signals crap. Aerial mounts and cabling coming out of the wazzoo.

How do you upload pictures on here? Would I have to link to something like photobucket?
