Evening, All.

My 1993 200 Tdi D90 does not have a low fuel warning light. Well, it does, as this is represented on the dash, but the feature is not wired in. Is it possible to enable this facility retrospectively? I've looked at the sender under the driver's seat and the necessary wiring is not present, although I think the sender itself supports the feature.

Many thanks,

Dom

If the sender is there then surely you just need to run the wiring from it to the warning light panel and fit it to the correct warning light pair. It may be worth swapping to a td5 illumination panel no dastardly bulbs to mess with then

The sender unit for later vehicles (after AA/BA243342) has three spade connectors on the top. On mine, the centre one is earth and the one towards the front is the feed to the gauge. The rearmost connector has a red blanking cap on it. I would guess this is for the low fuel warning. I couldn't find a low fuel light on my dash panel, or I would have connected it up to see if it worked. Hope that helps.

Strange your landy has no low fuel lamp,my 1990 90 does and all others of a similar age I have seen do.

Just looked again, in case my memory was unreliable, and I have the blanked off red connector. Do I simply wire this to the dash light? Presumably an earth is also needed?

I had a quick look while I was fitting the new sender and couldn't see one that looked like low fuel, but I will have a better look in the light of what you have said. Thanks.

I need to take the tank off mine to check the sender wires on mine, put a td5 tub and tank on so it's a bastard to check having to take it all off. Thinking about cutting a hole in the tub floor for access from above..

Now slightly baffled, after having a proper look. From Google, I am guessing that the low fuel warning light is a yellow petrol pump icon. There is definitely nothing like this on my dash panel. However, while I was in Google Images, I saw an image labelled 'late 200Tdi wiring loom connections' which showed a warning light panel identical to mine. Perhaps I have an earlier panel. There is a blank area between the trailer indicator warning and the 'lights on' warning, and I was wondering if I could utilise this.
