Check everything before sticking your hand in your pocket. If you are determined to go back to the bags man then don't count the cost....;)
Make a check list of everything these lot have said and go pull bits off, check, refit/rebuild/renovate and be certain. It can be demoralising sometimes and frustrating but rewarding when you hit the nails on their heads. Good luck mate:cool:;)

Good day today, got the chance to connect up the EAS to the laptop. It read the height from all 4 sensors so I guess that means I have working height sensors? next job is to test and recon the compressor.

Positive. Might need calibrating. If the values are too different so one is outside "expected" range then it can cause issues. Also, the sensors are basically a rheostat and if the track has a worn or dirty part it can be OK for some of the run but not others.

But definitely hopeful ...

The EAS can be done for not a lot of money unless you use Arnots and selling the springs should help cover the cost.

Springs allow suspension movement, so the sensors will not be seized.
Unless they have been seriously off-roading or reversing over parked cars they don't move anywhere near as when adjusting through ride heights on bags. If it's been on coils for ages the track may wear significantly on a small area. If they are zipped up they can fill full of crud and cannot be opened to clean out only changed. Hopefully the OP should be fine as sounds like it's not been too badly molested, and may be able to swap side to side at worst case.

The rubber spring isolators that should be fitted on the coil ends/any spacers are also worth few quid towards your project. I may even need replacements myself in the not too distant future ;)

There is no way a height sensor can fill with crud unless the O rings on the shaft are fecked. I run my P38's locked at motorway height, so not much different in terms of movement to riding on coils except that the sensors will run on a different part of the track as the car will likely be riding higher than on air.

Do you run motorway height 24/7 even when parked up for a week or two like coils?

Freezing the EAS will not help, the sensors move to a part of their range that is rarely used and pick up crap then giv duff readings.
After 2 decades I doubt the seals are like new. :)

Strange that the previous owner still had the beeps and bongs going off. Why did he not fit the kit that silences that?

He did, but either incorrectly or it wasn't working correctly (post 12/13). A lot of the time ,as I nearly did, the loom has the two wires cut into and butchered, perhaps without insulating it. - saves on expensive harness, but will bug**r it all once wet and dirt settle in there. There should be (3amp If I remember) fuse inline on shortest wire. When it works/installed correctly you will get a single beep and 'EAS Manual' on dash with ACC on ignition. The 35mph max will disappear automatically.

Both cars are locked at motorway height unless, very rarely, I need to wade out of the mill in winter.
The continuous height changes I regard as a sales gimmick. On our weekly shopping run the car used to change height 6 times for no good reason, adding to wear on the compressor.
The sensors on my project car are certainly 2 decades old and for the moment seem to be working.

I didn't think they broke really, more down to software malfunctions I always thought or wear out over vast amounts of time. There are a lot of threads about members fitting new ones with results after changing them on here though.

Op will need your help when it comes to plugging in/setting EAS. I haven't got a clue, my only experience is with the coil hardware
