Hello awesome people,
I Just have a few questions about this project am going to start in few days. I recently bought a 110 2.5 engine YES petrol unfortunately and am thinking of replacing it to tdi300 or V8 petrol discovery engine , what should I consider once going for such replacement? And what other parts that i should pay attention to once restoring it?.
The other thing is about the lift kit and tyres that I should get ; shall I go for 2" terferma or 2" old ome ? And 33" or 35 with spacers?
Also am converting the the roof or actually considering on converting it from a one cab pickup up to duble cab pickup up.
This is it almost hope you guys can guide me through this process and I will be greatly appreciative of your help.
Regards

both the 300 and v8 engines sit further forward as do the gear boxes so have different tunnels floor plates ,prop shafts etc than the other 4 cylinders,if your going to fit either i would fit like lr did as allk parts are then standard parts with no modified exhausts, hoses etc that you need to fit an engine in the wrong place, though lots of people do , if you want to fit an engine to the vehicle as is a defender 200 tdi is your best bet

If you want to convert it, go with what James says, he knows about this stuff.

Just a thought, but 2.5 petrol is a good engine, and I would think fuel is reasonably priced round you. Why not give it a go? Might run well for years.

Also, why do you need a lift kit and big tyres? Standard works very well, and is likely to be more reliable, as it doesnt put loads on the vehicle that the designer didnt envisage.

Firstly welcome. I agree with Turboman, give it a go as standard - original 110s are getting rare and the 2.5 isn't bad. I believe Turner engineering still do performance parts that can improve it greatly - at least to low compression v8 standard. http://turner-engineering.co.uk/index.html
If you must convert consider how much work is involved - it's a fair amount................
Your tyre/suspension choice really can come later when you've actually used it a bit - that way you can base your choices on experience - good luck, post some pictures, I guess it's not rusty!

2.5 petrols are rare, nice engine by all accounts.

Respond well to mild tuning and are LPG safe.

I'd improve what you have as in the future they will be rare.

thank you James and sorry for the late reply , yes you'r right its totally different and lots of parts needs to be change that's why i had to buy an ex army vehicle with TDI 300 engine and did the the full conversion. the parts that we change are almost every thing except for the chase ;
TDI 300 Gear boxes and engine as we had to wield the engine base to the chaise.
floor plates and center gearbox plate as well , since the tdi300 and v8 engine gear boxs are both bigger than the one before
prop shafts its much longer than the 4 cylinders engine
these are mainly the most parts that should be considred once doing the conversion other than that is an easy job to do

after finishing the engine and the suspension we had to start with the crew cab conversion it took us almost 3 days to move the 110 station body and cut the needed parts to fit them in place

this is where we are now and still work is in progress

ill keep you guys posted with everything

thanks for the reply , the petrol is cheep in the gulf area not in jordan we don't have oil unfortunately so we got the same prices as you guys have in Europe ; that's why we are going with the TDI 300 since the diesel in much cheaper than the petrol around here. am with you in keeping the original parts on the vehicle but some times if your'e going M/T you need to have at least 33" tires to fit your needs on multiple track types.

hey waldmar , iv given it a go but unfortunately on the roads its really bad so i wanted something to be good and road and off the road. and the work you've seen in the pictures took us 3 weeks almost working on it every day

its really have on the pocket lol and slow on the road

Trust me, you do not need at least 33 inch tyres to have Mud Terrains on a landrover.

Doubt if it will be much faster with Tdi, specially with the 33inch tyres!

We would have gone with the range Rover 4.6 conversion if the petrol was cheep , but this is the best option from many perspectives ; economy and performance. Anyway we have tried the same thing on other vehicle and its working just fine. Ofcourse it would be much better if it was on its original size tyres but it won't work on the sand of rum

If that is your choice, best of luck with it. You will be more familiar with local conditions than I am. :)
