Has anyone had a door resprayed recently? Just wondered how much ££ to rid some oxidising, take some dings out and respray.

Near Milton Keynes but would travel 50 miles or so, maybe further if I could get all 4 doors done at the same time.

You will not get rid of the oxidisation. If you flattened it all down you would see the aluminium has been eaten through and left white powder stuff AKA aluminium oxide. Covering it up with filler or paint is only going to stop it for about a year, if it's kept fairly dry!

The problem is that the aluminium and steel react with each other in the presence of moisture. Look up galvanic corrosion if you don't already know about it. You could sort of stop it, but you would need to pull the door skin off and separate the two metals, but by the time you have gone in that far you are as well rebuilding them.

I had this oxidisation on my two front doors, luckily I was offered a TD5 NS door for good money and it had not rotten yet, so I was able to sand it down for respray, seal it all up, paint it twice then pump it FULL of Dinitrol till it leaked out everywhere and I hope I will get long rot free service from it. I ended up having to strip my old door skin off, clean and repair the frame, have it galvanised, paint it in primer, paint the back of the door skin in primer, then bond them together so that there is not actually any aluminium and steel contact.

Then I sealed round all the seams with seam sealer, etched the lot and painted it twice. That to be honest is the level of attention you will need to give your door to get it painted and looking smart for years to come.

One of the biggest issues is that rain water just pours down the window seal. I managed with some carefully placed black silicon seal it all up a bit round the waist seal but when I am washing the car I can see water literally disappear down the gaps, it then runs down inside and floods the frame at the bottom of the door, which then spends most of it's life sitting soaked.

As above, they can be painted but maybe a new skin is better. the surface area isn't much so you could rattle can it.

I found a new replacement skin for £75 any idea how much it would cost to remove old skin, fit new skin and repaint?

Thanks

Removing the skin and replacing is a fairly easy but fiddly job, local place will quote to paint.

Are you sure the door frames are worth reskinning? They often have dreadful tinworm.
