Hi All,

After my drivers door popped open a couple of times while driving, and doing a little bit of research on which type of locks I could have, I decided to get the anti burst door locks and new strikers. They arrived today, and I was "optimistic" as to how much daylight and dryness there would be, and so I started to change out the passenger side lock first (as that side sometimes locked, and sometimes didn't lock).

After taking away lots of bits and bobs which related to the older locks, it looks like the striker I now have, fits to the frame without the many bits of plastic packing that have been used to shim out the old striker.

I've got to the point where the door looks to fit the frame well, with an even panel gap all round, and the door closes and locks as it should... (this is all without the rubber seal in place)
When I replace the rubber seal, the lock only goes onto the 1st click, but there doesn't seem to be any more adjustment in the striker...
I've thought about replacement seals, but they are reasonably new, and look to be fitted well.
I've thought about shimming out the hinge side, in a hope that the seal is too tight on that side, and a shim could help with that..

(Any suggestions welcome - Obviously)

Unfortunately cold, rain and night stopped play for today, so I will see what I can achieve in the morning, in terms of getting it to fit on the 2nd click, but I feel that (like the door) it's close!

Once I'm happy with that side, I'll do the drivers side, which I think will be more of an issue, as looking at it now, it doesn't look well aligned in any case, so a bit more giggling will need to be done to get that sorted I'm sure!

I would suggest stating which vehicle it is and then asking @blue beasty to move it to the relevant area of the forum as this part is for projects

My 1996 Defeder 300tdi 110 doors don't close properly, but enough to stop them flying open.
Suddenly for this years MOT they picked up on this.
I've pulled the rubber seals off ready for the re-test, and will put them back on afterwards.
I've kept meaning to sort it out, but never got around to it. I can only guess adding/replacing shims behind the hinges, and any adjustment to the striker?

There is a little in/out up/down movement available if you free off the striker. On my truck because of some distortion I have filed out the holes some.
PS if the latch roller is fecked they do not work well.

They are new locks and new strikers - The old locks were not the anti burst type, and I just feel a little safer knowing that they are "less likely" to just open half way down the road.

I "Think" that I need to create a bit of a better door angle by using a spacer on the hinge to bring the door round the seal a little more. But we'll have to see what tomorrow brings!

Probably something more fun than doors :)
