My downpipe went in easy once i had read the instructions... well i am a bloke after all

Mine is 200tdi disco engine conversion into 1986 defender fitted Steve Parker pipe.

He suggests shortening the studs at manifold pre putting engine in, was a proper monkey to get the grinder in there with it fitted..

Haha I think removing the front crossmember seems to be the easiest option so far!!

I am redoing mine again in a couple of weekends, will drop the cross member this time, but mainly to check for rust.

last time I had the x-member out in needed to use a bottle Jack to get it out and back in

Luke, have you finished this yet? If not, as the guys above state, remove the cross member...it's only 8x bolts and a bit of 'encouragement' to release the crossmember + gives you a chance to clean chassis and jet wash out and treat the crossmember before putting back in.

I've just done my Def 200tdi and the only fiddly parts are 1. the downpipe bracket to engine screws [especially the one next to the engine mounting], and 2. getting all the exhaust mounts and rubbers to sit correctly. For best fitment, attach the whole exhaust loosely, then from manifold onwards tighten up rearward to have an unstressed exhaust. Good luck...
