Hi,

The down pipe on my 90 needed replacing, so ive cut the old one out. I am pretty sure I am going to have to remove the cross member in the chassis to put the put back on.

Is there any tips? as up to now it wont budge at all which I presume is due to the chassis pushing against it.

I managed to do mine without removing the front cross member but it was a faff and took a lot of wiggling

I had to take the cross member off when I did mine. Not difficult tho. And is much easier than trying to wiggle it around in my opinion.

Yeah it is going to be easier fitting it with the cross member removed but the crossmember wont budge at all.

Ah I see. Sorry didn’t read your post properly. My reply was a bit pointless in that case - sorry! Is it the bolts or is it the cross member it’s self. Could always use a jack to press it out

Hey guys I am waking this thread back up if that's ok! I just replaced the exhaust from the front pipe back but the front pipe face was so... unique... that it's not making a good seal. I tried a bit of wiggling just to test if I could contort it out but no luck.

So regarding this front cross member - we are talking about that large cylindrical cross member that the front pipe passes above?

How involved is dropping that? I noticed 4? bolts per side? Do they go into threads in the chassis rails or do I need to get a wrench behind them?

Once I get the bolts out is it going to be under any pressure? I am wondering if it will want to fall out making it quite easy or if it will be jammed in making getting it out (and more importantly) back in will be a nightmare...

If its just some black puff at the downpipe to turbo join that is quite normal, exhaust paste and making sure the two downpipe to engine block bolts are fitted helps a lot.

It's absolutely fine at the turbo end. It's where I bolting my intermediate pipe to it. The old intermediate pipe that came off basically moulded itself to the end of the front pipe and made the end face really varied. So when I just can't get a good seal all the way around the joint.
