Hi, I need to replace 2 of the "Michelin Sychrone 4*4" tyres 225/55/17 97H on my Freelander. Very hard to get these tyres now so whilst they all match right now it's time to think about a change. Can anyone suggest decent replacements that will be fine with the two remaining Sychrone's please, I was looking at Michelin Latitude Cross Terrain this morning but seems 225 is a hard size to source. I guess in this weather I would prefer to get a tyre that likes the snow. Preference would be to stick with Michelin again from the matching perspective. A choice therefore of a few to try and find on the web suitable would be most helpful? Thanks

Tiss a good question rix infact i might be in the same position [I have the same tires] but it might pay you to get some part worns [of a similar type] just to get yer moneys worth out the tires ,then change the whole lot . . . .remember if there is a big difference in wear best tires too the back wheels. . . . . . . . .

Hi Rixoni, do not use Michelin Synchrone and Michelin Latitude tyres together. On the Belgium Freelander Forum there is a letter in which Michelin makes a warning about this. I don't know the correct English words but the outside diameter of the Latitude is bigger than the outside diameter of the Synchrone in the same size. For Michelin this is within the marge but for a Freelander this is too much. I suggest you inform with Michelin UK for further information. The tyrespecialist replaced two Synchrone for 2 Latitude did the best tires on the back but still the Freelander of a member had the problem of the VCU.

I contaced Michelin direct about this a couple of months ago and they stated that Synchrones & Latitudes MUST NOT be mixed on the vehicle whether that be across axles or front to rear.
The issue of different tyre types having a different circumference although they are the same size (225/55R17) is well known and has the potential to damage the (fragile?) transmission.

I am getting rid of the Synchrones soon and getting five new ones, rears are getting worn but fronts are good and spare is 100% unused. Just can't convince myself to go for Michelins again though.

Same here. I just invested in two Pirelli Scorpion STR for the rear and moved the the Synchrones forward. The Pirelli's are M+S rated. The Synchrones on the front still have about 4-5 mm on after running for 56k on the rear. Although there is plenty of tread left they are cracking slightly so as soon as I can afford another two I will change these too.

watch out for a deal at ATS .I got 4 sync's for the price of 3 last year £330 all in.costco cash and carry do them

hi change all four still got two part worn sychrone tyres going begging but keeping third as it my spare search Latitude's any good on all four's and see the problems I had with mixing sychrones and latitudes

I also had Pirelli Scorpions mixed with the synchrones when I bought the car..... drove fine and have now replaced all with 4 Scorpions

Have to admit that means I have a spare synchrone remaining....
