bought this months LRO and it says you can fit the 200tdi starter motors into older 90/110 and even series. benifits are that they run smoother, quieter and spin faster which should in theory start your landy better.

dont know if peps have had problems with them, but pick up a copy at your local newsagents and have a look in the prac section.

ah ha... I always assume 300tdi!

Hes got a good point... faster spin hu? That could be usefull... a contributing factor to the 200tdi's good starting I would think.

Here is the 2.5NA/TD and 200tdi starter RTC4979

It will only fit SOME 200tdi's the 2.5 one, because I know there there is a later one that will fit both the 200 and 300tdi... so I guess there must be some changes somewhere later on.

I am not sure what the hell is being sold here, but if thats the starter for £15, get it quick!

Oh pish... I missed that... I have been doing this recently, jumping to conclusions before reading the whole thing... perhaps I am becoming impatient.

I opened a magazine today, and out of the 1000 or so words on the page my eyes jumped to "disaster", there and then I figured, training sheepdogs is a disaster waiting to happen.

ok, so I got me replacement starter motor, put it in, all seemed straight forward - old one out,new one in- but when i came to test the handywork there was no electrics. no dash lights, no headlights NADA. A landrover owning chum said make sure the earth lead from the starter to the chassis has been replaced but i cant seem to locate it. could one of you kind people tell me in leypersons terms where the lead attaches - is it the back of the starter( i have a "spare" threaded stud coming out the back that was not on the old motor) or does it attach with all the other wires on the solenoid??? please help, my christmas plans are fast evaporating!!!!!

It depends on what you call the back. It's on the very end of the starter motor and is quite short and bolts onto the block. The live is half way down, sort of.

tell me about it, my starter is still on the table and i have to fit it and get it working tomorrow or im minimaned for xmas!

the earth strap should be attached to the one of the bolts holding on the front mount plate to the starter. next to the manifold? and frm there, there should be a point on the chassis directly below where the other end screws onto.

cant really explain it any other way. im not even sure if the earth has to go here, there may be several other points available.

have you checked the batt? you may have drained it trying to start it previously. worth pulling it out, sticking it on charge and cleaning all the contacts while your at it.
