I have a set of chequered plates fixed to the top of the wings on either side of the bonnet, and the bolts are rusty so I would like to replace them.

How do you replace these bolts? Do you need to dismantle parts of the body to be able to get in and hold the nuts in place while tightening? Or should this be possible by opening the bonett and squeezing your hand through?

The land rover is a Defender 90 County model, with a 2.4 TDCi engine.

Are you sure they are nuts and bolts and not self tappers with hex heads?
Most are normally fitted with pop rivets.

Is this a serious question? Surely anyone can work this out......

You'll be able to do it by just opening the bonnet and getting your hands through. Easier if you have the help of someone with small hands.
