hi all can anyone help im needing a spare key / remote for my range rover getting silly quotes from dealers my question is is there anywhere else i can get them from , thanks in advance

The only option for a new key for a P38 is through the dealer, assuming its a P38 you are talking about. If you have a damaged none working key it can often be repaired or the data extracted from it. There is little point having your existing key copied as you will end up with two of the same key and only one can be synced at a time to the car,

Was about £160 when I got mine. Painful but better than being left with no keys!

Just bought some new ones for a couple of my project P38's that had the keys nicked when the workshop was broken into, and also got a spare for my own one at the same time... Dealer price near me was £171 including VAT as of a few weeks ago..

Sorry guys forgot to say it's a Range Rover sport 2006 yes dealers are talking around £260 all in ;-(

£175.00 remote fob
£25.00 for key blade
£60.00 to be programmed !!!!!
Hence was hoping someone else can supply

I gather they have to be programmed to the car , thats why you can't buy second hand ones as once programmed they will only work on the first car they were programmed for id for alarm setting and locking ?

But I don't think they are programmed on site ie. at the Main Stealers, but when ordered from Germany.

Now I think about it, that's about the same I was quoted for a replacement Jag key. I wrote to the previous owner (from V5) and asked if they had a spare. About a week later one turned up in the post.

The Jag ones for my year are actually Ford keys. Apparently a Mondeo one can be programmed and will work. I think Autolock near me can do it.

Maybe your Rangie one is similar?

Think a guy on here played with P38 keys. Might have done the later models too. MrSporty I think it was.

I was talking to him recently about P38 bits. I know he can repair P38 key fobs, so definitely worth asking... I think he goes by FobFix on eBay, or the internet, so maybe a look at his web page or eBay store might show if he does anything with the newer ones.

ive found a place in in Nottingham 3dautokey they come to your house and do replacements £130 for key and fob ill keep you all posted how it goes :)

Will be interesting to see if they just clone your existing key & fob, or actually provide a number 2, 3 or 4 ?

I don't know if the later Range Rovers fobs work the same way. I think his was made while Ford were in charge so it could be off anything.
