Hi all
Many years ago there used to be a kit available to fit an Essex v6 into l/r Steve Parks I think.

What other non l/r engines are available [Diesel] with the necessary bell housing adaptors etc.
to suit a Defender??
 
Steve Parker is still going strong and there are a range of conversion kits to suit a variety of popular engine changes, including several non-Land Rover ones.

Edit - just had a closer look at the links. Maybe the non Land Rover stuff isn't so well catered for any more.
 
Yep I can not find much info on conversions, there is the big Cummins 6.2l but with the myriad of diesels available[Merc,Nissan,Toyota,Peugeot, Ford etc. there must be more??

There are some ads about re-engining in the specialist mags like LRO, IIRC.
Do you have a specific engine in mind?

I'd be surprised if there were, with the added complexity of ecu's and the ready availability of 200/300tdi's and td5s there just doesn't seem the interest of fitting other engines anymore when you can opt for a much more straightforward swap
 
No specific engine, but with the so called lack of parts for the 200tdi engine I was just wondering what was available, in case mine goes bang .
 
There are enough around at the moment but cylinder heads are not that plentiful etc.
 
The BMW 3 ltr turbo diesel , apart from welding eng mount brackets to chassis , all parts are standard landrover or BMW . The ECU can be sorted by replacing with a stand alone unit , or an adapter harness purchased which allows the existing (BMW) ecu and imobiliser etc to be retained.
 
200 engines are getting harder to find but plenty of 300 tdis around atm ,just a case of moving the O/S chassis mount or make a remote oil filter and custom engine mount to change from 200 to 300
