Hi, 2011 LR4 DIY replacing the air compressor. LR dealer quoted $2500 AUD, can get a AMK for around $ 300 dollars, do you have to reprogram the ecu? or is there another way to do this if you are in the bush and there are no dealers in a 1000ks. Also how do you get seat covers on a HSE with the arms in the road.

What’s the original compressor?
If it’s already got AMK then straight swop. If not then yes some electrickery will be needed.
I don’t know when they changed over maybe @gstuart can throw some light.

hi

personally own a gap iid which will do everything including suspension recalibration and also update the compressor

older discos had the hitachi , newer ones had the amk, so if u go from an hitachi to an amk u do a software update which the gap iid will do

alas there around £420 Sterling uk, but will pay for themselves very quickly , will be like having access to a dealers capability in ur own hands

if u replace like for like u don’t have to reprogram anything , they will normally come with a new relay

here’s the link for the gap iid , plus there after sales is second to none , here’s a link for u , if u scroll down and add ur model u can see what it can do, plus of course read fault codes, reset them and live data

also there contact page , just in case there’s something different and to be 100% sure

seat covers I bought ones from Inka, they fit extremely well , alas not sure if they shop to aus

https://www.inkacorp.com/

please be very careful as there are plenty of fakes around of hitachi and amk , here in the uk a genuine amk kit are around £500 Sterling

this company is very good

hope the above helps

hi mate

I believe they changed from hitachi to amk in late 2009-10 when the discovery crossed over to the D4 in late 2009-10

indeed is just a quick update if going from hitachi to amk , alas though there are plenty of fakes around

Thanks for that information, I will keep you posted on the end results, it is good to be able to get information on a particular problem,
in this throwaway society you get everything at an exorbitant price. Will keep you posted.

Hitachi type, removed and cleaned out the air crystals and pads, Reassembled and goes normally [so far] going on
a 30000k around Australia trip so replacing with a upmarket knock off $500 with relay. Getting transmissions serviced
belts replaced ect . LR4 has not been used to tow [ still original bar hitch] service report shows slight turbo leak in the
right side. How difficult to check? Thanks for advise.

Fitted new Hitachi compressor, suspension working no fault lights, so fingers crossed problem fixed. Costs $500 + my time at quoted
hr rate from dealer $150 x 3 $450 so little change out of $1000.
