I need to replace the head on my 2.5 n/a 1985 110 s/w. As it's already done over 180k I think that now is the time to upgrade to 200/300 tdi. What should I go for (200 or 300) and do I want an engine out of a defender or a disco? Then there's exhaust, engine mountings. Will my gearbox be ok? Any advice PLEASE!

dont they teach yu to use yo eyes in the air force?

do a search - its bin covered MANY times.

oh - and welcome to Looneyzone.

i personally would geta 3ootdi, as it is a bit quieter and more refined than the 200. but theres not a lot in it.

if you get a 200, then a defender engine would be better but if you get a disco one then you would need a steve parker downpipe as the turbo is on top. if you get a 300tdi, then it doesnt matter as the defender/disco versions are identical.

Except the 200tdi fits straight in to a 90/110 chassis and the 300tdi doesn't unless you weld a new engine mount to the chassis.

also what would become of your 2.5? wanna sell it cheap like? if you do i could find a good home for it

I have a 2.5 N/A for sale if you want one!

Have gearbox, and zorst system too for sale:)

Oh... and get a 200. I've just had mine converted. The engine delivers the power perfectly, and you'll be saving a load on fuel too - and no funny fangled electricker to go wrong, just good old fashioned mechanics!!!!

how much? what box is it? deepender? i need to up-grade the 2.25d in my S3 as its on its last legs and lacks power(the poor thing is in a 109+it has to lug loags of kit about all the time

yeh but its hardly the job of the century to weld new engine mounts is it?

i personally would prefer the 300 cos its that bit quieter.....couple that with a bit of sound proofing, and a disco transfer box, and i reckon you would have a reasonable motorway cruiser.

or as good as a deepender is ever gona be! not including the td5 or the new 6 speed transit jobby of course.

don't see why not MHM though don't know about matching up to a series gear box . maybe worth doing a search:D

If it is the "defender" shape rather than a series then it does i think. i know the engine mounts for the 200tdi are the same as they are for the 2.5 NA and TD.
