Forget removing the wheel - having done tis twice now, there is a much easier way. Remove the nut from the draglink balljoint end by the wheel, loosen th clamp, and then twiddle the balljoint in or out of the end. Sorted. The hammer trick shouldnt be done ever, the bumpy track idea is better. Using the hamster on the end of an old steering column will almost certainly weaken its collapse points that are there incase u crash it - and it stands a high chance of breaking while u r driving. It even says on the steering wheel to to use a hammer, and thats coming from land rover! I made my own steering wheel removal tool also once, used a piece of 1/4 in steel plate, which bent the 2 smaller bolts to the point of stretching and breaking them, and the steering wheel didnt even move. So i did the balljoin thing. Much easier!
