Hi,
I am planning a trip of about 2000 miles, to southern france and back.
And was wondering if it would be possible to remove the front half shaft, in order to make my land rover 90 2.5td a rear wheel drive car, and thus save on fuel.
Is this possible ? are there any risks? does it put extra strain on the transfer box having to be in diff lock the whole time? does it actually give a better fuel economy? because i thought there really is no need for 4 wheels to be driven on a motorway.
even with an increase of from 20 to 25 mpg, based on diesel being £1 per litre. thats £4.50 per gallon, so over the trip i'd use 20 gallons less, which is nearly £100.
