Of course I can't post in the wanted section as I don't have enough posts.

I know there are a couple on eBay but always feel a bit uncomfortable when I see sellers with neg feedback. I know there are always two sides to a story, but I can't afford to throw away money.

You can fit a 4.6 engine with your existing setup - you just need to swap over the front cover and camshaft for a long-nose type - and buy a 20 quid crank spacer from Turners or RPi

You are taking a massive risk tough in buying a 500 quid 4.6 from somewhere.

My recommendation is to remove you engine as previously planned, strip it down and send the block off to TVR power for top hat liners(believe it or not they are the cheapest at 550 plus VAT)

Then buy a full rebuild kit from Turners including a kent H180 camshaft rather than a standard -

This will consist of mains, shells, rings, seals, gaskets, new head bolts, timing gear, lifters etc

Your pushrods and rockers should be ok but you must renew everything else.

Budget 750 for this.

An engineering shop will charge you a couple of hundred to polish your crank and give a very light skim and valve re-seat to the heads - don't forget to do this.

so about 1500 quid will give you, in effect, a brand new engine.

If you are confident you can do this it is the best way to go - in any case there is loads of help and assistance to help you through it.

A 3.9 with H180 cam will knock the socks off a dodgy 140000-mile 4.6 any day of the week.

Best of luck with it mate

griffman,

Thanks for the advice.

I've also put an offer on the rangie that you said about in the other thread, so we'll see if that works.

Tbh I've be dragging this out too long, which is my own fault for not just getting in and sorting it.

I do appreciate everyone's advice, I'm just crap at making a decision lol

Doesn't help when you're having many opinions thrown at you! "No this is best" "No this way is better". I'm just the same!

I was in a similar situation, needing another engine as the previous one was in need of a rebuild. With hindsight I should have rebuilt my original engine. But instead I bought another engine.

If you do get another engine, its quite obvioius but make sure you get a good one! Although what I bought was entirely my own fault.

My original engine is still waiting for its rebuild and infact I've been planning it for a while now.

Whether you want to get a 4.6 and drop it in, get a 4.6 and rebuild, or rebuild your current one, then either way if it were me then I'd be staying with the Rover V8. It might make sense to someone who is going to rebuild an engine, while the original is out, upgrade to a 4.6 and rebuild that.

Either way, keep it simple and good luck! :D

That's what I'm worried about, getting a good one. Can't afford to throw money away on a rubbish engine.

I'm looking at a 4.6 that's had top hats and a refurb so fingers crossed.

If not it will be rebuild time.

Either way I'll be going megasquirt in the very near future, as I run lpg so I'll have the benefit of two maps.

Thanks :D
