I have a dent on the bonnet of my Disco 2. It's around 1-2 mm deep at the centre with a diameter around 10mm. There is no paint damage/cracking. No experience removing dents and understand it can be a little difficult with aluminium. Took another vehicle to a local panel shop and while there I discussed the bonnet dent on the Disco. The bloke said he had a guy who did PDR and he would be able to remove it for $650! Seems a lot to remove a small dent!!! Any advice? Has anyone done this successfully themselves - special tools/techniques?

Try to pull it out with a suction puller, should come out at that size.
I did this when a women ran in to my old Disco just below rear lights with a supermarket trolly.
Good luck you will do it am sure

There are also glue sticking kits that stick the tool to the dent then once you've pulled it out, you heat up the glue till it goes liquid and you can clean it off.

I have one but sadly back in Blighty so I can't give you chapter and verse from here.
Amazon is full of this type of thing.

This is the sort of beast you want I would say...if it can support 40kg it will sort your dent out I am sure. Its not instant you have to attach it and pull sometimes a few times just keep at it and you will see it rise up.I have got a range of these and a hot glue gun.I did not find the glue gun any good myself.

These companies think of prices and just quote silly figures I think,I am surprised they get any work at all.I would not pay that for a little dent like that.

I had a quote recently to have a 50mm scrape painted and filled on my Disco bumper...its white.I phoned up one of these home visit paint people who come and fix it.....Quote came in at £650 ! I could not believe it.! I did it myself with good paint and a bit of patience and was pleased with the result.

There are good and bad as in all walks of life. The guy who has done it more than once on our drive, to Wifey's car, does a perfect job and only charges £100. And it wasn't just because he enjoyed my lessons at school! He did a similar excellent job for a friend of ours repainting a whole bumper and again only charged £100.
But yes we too had similar stupid quotes.

My mate got one of they kits & pulled the dent out then pulled the paint off with the glue.

Really?
Mine just says if you heat up the glue enough it should just run off the paint, maybe he just didn't stop pulling in time. but I can see how that would happen. Still a quick rattle can, eh?
Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, say no more, eh?!;););););););)

650 to remove a dent :eek: I got a guy to take a ding out my door and it was 50 quid for about 10mins work. I grudged the amount, but that’s business and I was glad to see the dent gone.

The price I was given absolutely floored me! Daylight robbery! [Never ask for a quote wearing a gold watch!;)]

Really annoys me - they take you for a wood duck!

Okay, I was put off a bit when someone told me that aluminium can be problematic! As I said, paint is perfect and I don't want to risk cracking it, however, given the prices these greedy arseclowns are quoting I think I'll just have a go! Will have a look at the unit on eBay, since noted quite a few dent pullers on aliexpress. Anything I should do with aluminium - do it on a cold/hot day? Any tips to improve the chances of a decent PDR do-it-yourself job?

Aluminium is very different to the normal steel panel. I got a few dents removed on an old car and it's certainly a skilled job which you cannot do without the special light used to highlight the surface imperfections. I have a small annoying dent in my disco, he wouldn't touch it. He would have reduced it but recommended fillers and repainting the panel.
