you will need to remove engine , chassis mounts ,fit 200 to gearbox without clutch line engine up in chassis to determine new mount postion , remove engine ,weld mounts in, wiring will be similar and will need lengthening /shortening to fit ,in that starter solenoid wire will do 200 ,coil feed injection pump solenoid ,temp, oil pressure etc, fuel pump for v8 remving and straight feed from tank to lift pump presumably a disco 200 ,with which you will need rad intercooler and frame assemby which needs mod to frame to fit if you have 4 or 6 bolt pas box disco pas pipes will fit with alittle fettling timing kit da3140 from britpart is good and covers all 4 cylinders but £70ish
Ok, thanks for that, very helpful. I was hoping the engine brackets would still be in the same place. oh well. but at least the rest don't sound too bad.

Very welcome - I bought the kit (same seller) that included the crank pulley puller as well - did the trick

See he's also added the rotation locking tool as well - I bought one off difflock for quite a few more pennies (know you can use a breaker bar and crank the engine with the stop solenoid disconnected, but didn't fancy it!)

Was just wondering what engine you have? Is it the 200, or 300tdi? reason I'm asking is although the timing pins fit both engines, he cant be sure if the other tools you mentioned (that I'd like too) will fit the 200tdi, as they are designed for the 300tdi. If not, I'll certainly have the timing pins off him. :)

Mine's a 300 TDi

From the Difflock site

4x4 Store

Looks like their puller has multiple holes, which suggests that the Crank Pulley on the 200 and 300 engines are different - sorry, as the ebay price is preferabel to the Difflock one!

Sure one of the guys will confirm

Thanks for that link. Yes, some of the tools on the ebay one are not suitable for the 200tdi. The ones in your link may be expensive, but they look, and sound good quality. And you have all the tools you need to not only replace the belt, but do the seals too. A kit like that is quite hard to come by now. :)

Doesn't a 300tdi use the same mounts as a v8? If they are the same, why not change to a 300tdi; I'm sure someone will sell the necessary conversion kits.

v8 uses different mounts to tdi

It's funny because I was looking inside my engine bay in the cold light of day comparing my engine mount positions to one where another person showed me a pic of his empty engineless engine bay, (who is doing the conversion the conventional way taking out a TD engine, and putting in a 200tdi), and my engine mounts look to be in the same position as his, and look the same shape?

I'm just wondering if I'm very lucky, because they fitted the V8 (which remember is not factory fitted,) using an adapter plate, is it possible they could have not disturbed the original engine mounts?? Certainly if they have changed the mounts to accomondate the V8, then they have only moved the mounts a very tiny amount. Which may still let me use them, albeit by drilling new mount/bracket holes a few mm either way. But I honestly think this V8 has been put in using the original td engine mounts.

Maybe thats what the adapter plate did, as well as getting around the length of the shaft, it also allowed the V8 to use the original td mounts? It's difficault to see, but the adapter plate looks like it has a bit of depth in it to maybe to get around the above issues? I dont know, I'm just trying to convince myself that I wont have to change the engne mounts :blabla: Only thing I know for certain is the V8 has been fitted using it's original rover sd1 3.5 engine brackets.

Maybe back in the day before it became more popular to fit 200tdi's, as they are more plentiful now, people used to fit the v8 to get more power, when the price of fuel wasn't too bad. is the above a posibility do you think? it would certainly save me a lot of hassle if it is.
I guess in a few years time we could be having this conversation using the TD5 engine as the swop when they become more plentiful. :)

Oh, you obviously know your way around landrovers, so maybe you could tell me what I can expect to get for a well sorted full V8 engine on ebay with a brand new Rad, stater, waterpump, full service, most hoses, fan belt. the parts I have bills foir, it has also only done 20,000 on a rebuild, that I cant prove, but it certainly runs like it. I Just want to know if it's worth selling on ebay in your opinion? And Thanks again for all your helpful advice.:) Or if anyone else has sold a v8 on ebay, do you mind telling me what you got for it?
