RANGE ROVER TD6

New Member
Hi i have recently had a new stainless exhaust fitted to my R Rover td6 and the firm that fitted it said that it is not a legal requierment to have a cat fitted to a diesel in this country and if removed it would increase its performence, is this true? Regards John.

My 300tdi doesnt have one but not so sure about newer engines

…………… have you tried google or are you just being a lazy bastard ?

As far as mot goes as long as it passes the smoke test no need for a cat and i've tested plent of diesels with no cats or cats been broken out and they go through fine, its taxi the run about town at less then 2500 revs that build up with soot,

smoke test is tighter for a car reg'd after june 2008, not done one without a cat yet.

You might have a problem next year at mot time if as expected the mot test includes for checking that your car has a cat fitted if it was fitted with a cat at manufacture.
As I understand it they will just check the cat is there nothing else.
If the cat should be there and it isn't.....fail.
Should be some fun next year:)

Cut the cat out, cut a hole in the cat and wrench all the gubbins out then weld back together and then back into place
