I'm looking at fitting my beacon bar to my D1 but plan to fit it on removable roof bars to keep it out of sight!

I have searched the tinternet for a water proof multi pin connector that I can fit to the roof of the D1 , anybody any ideas????

There are a lot of connectors that would do the trick. I'm not near any of my catalogues as they are in the office but check out the multipin bulgin connectors on Farnell or CPC. I forget the range, but they plug in then a screw lock ring fastens them against a rubber seal.
 
Dont forget RS components . Also have a look at Neutricks Speakons and XLRs . Or the people who supply the Rists stuff now that Rists have folded , automotive wiring suppliers whose name fails me ....

How many ways do you need?

What sort of current will you be drawing?

Do you want the vehicle half to be panel mounted, or cable mounted?

As Ben.Suffolk has said, they're available from CPC, Farnell and RS.


I've had Bulgin Buccaneer 2-Way Connectors on my 110, used for the Rear Worklamps and Power Sockets, since I bought it new in 1989 -

seems reinventing the wheel- European tow socket would do the job and wont be accidentally interchangeable and as it combines our 2 towing sockets loads of options

11 feeds
1 7.5A
2 7.5A
3 150 mA
4 90 mA
5 70 mA
6 120 mA
7 5.3A
8 6.3A
9 90 mA
10 5.1A
11 Earth (the highest combined drain would be approx 25 A)

The socket would need to be mounted on the roof and be water proof connected and disconnected,
The Buccaneer looks just the job but only has small amps on 12 pins, might be worth a call tomorrow.
MHM how you doing, I wasn't sure if you did this type of connector?

I had a look at the suppliers I use and couldn't see anything that uses a mix of terminal sizes AND is sealed to a decent IP rating.

There are some where all the terminals will support 25A + and they're sealed, but these were quite large assemblies with over-centre latching, which would cost in the region of £150 for a male and female set. They also used terminals that required a specialist crimping tool.


Edit:

I just had a thought, if you used a connector with sufficient 'ways', you could have separate earths for each light in your beacon bar, instead of one mahoosive earth.

Something like this Military connector from Simtek would fit the bill -

You would need a sealing cap for when your beacon bar isn't connected, they don't list one, but I'm sure they could get one.
