Hi I have a Disco 2 facelift and the receiver fitted to the car is hopeless to unlock the car you have to stand right by passenger back door to get the receiver to pick up the key signal and unlock or lock the car! the battery in the key is new and I understand on a p38 that there's an upgraded receiver can this be done or some other mod to improve range help!!!!

AFAIK there's no "upgrade" for the central locking receiver on the Disco 2.
However poor reception of the signal from the fob is more often than not due to moisture in and around the radio receiver. Moisture induced corrosion on the mounting/grounding bolt and connectors can also cause problems.
The receiver is mounted in the roof, above the headlining, between the two sunroofs.

@L9RCA ,

Definitely something wrong with yours , mine will work from 40 feet away.

As brian47 says check your receiver is earthed correctly and has no moisture around it. A new one is not expensive about £30, but if you know someone with a D2, then you might "borrow" theirs to see if it improves the reception on your car. It is a 10 minute job to change and is plug and play.

Cheers

The upgrade to the P38 rf receiver was to narrow its range of acceptance of rf signals.The original versions would wake up the BECM,(And therefore flatten its battery in 24hrs) with any nearby activity on or around 433Mhz. The upgrade can filter out all of that and only wake up the BECM when a P38 fob is used.
There is nothing wrong with the DII system,so if yours is playing up its a fault within the car itself.

Out of interest, does this occur in every location? The reason I ask is because some folks have reported problems when parked near power cables/ariels etc that interfere with the signal.

Mine's never worked from more than a couple of metres away. It's been like that for the 7 years I've owned it, so I suspect if it was down to damp / corrosion it would have got worse.....

mine used to be the same, had to do the "unlock dance" and cavort over the bonnet, but then i changed my reciver and now works from about 10mtrs away

It is easy enough to change. From memory it helps when you drop the head lining a bit and you can reach through the rear sunroof hole if you have one.

From what I recall the receiver was not too expensive.

I did one for a mate, that is why the memory isn't great LOL I didn't pay for it ;)

+1,its fairly easy,what I did was to just drop the rear sunroof controls, and headlining a bit, this mean you can just get your hands above and undo the bolts, just remember to put the earth back onto the bolt before you do it back up:oops:

You have to stand by the rear doors to get it to pick up the key signal same on both keys
