is there no mappers on here that can clear this question up as to why you get more MPG ???

I can't see how it can increase economy, unless the driving style is altered too.

A diesel can't make more torque for less fuel, fact. A diesel engine works on a variable mixture ratio. Increase the fuel to air ratio, and torque will increase accordingly. Reduce fuel mixture and torque drops away. So whenever torque is gained by mapping, fuel consumption must increase.

My own FL1 has seen a 3 Mpg drop in economy when I fitted my Synergy. However there's such an improvement in performance and driveability, it's worth the slight drop in economy.

ithink your right Nodge i have been reading up on it and its all down to the way its driven mainly but it gives you the option of driving steady but if you want to put the foot down you can.i think the main winner with having this done would be someone that tows a trailer or a van a lot.I will report my findings asap

the only time you would possibly and I say possibly get better fuel consumption is by not having to change down on a slight hill and of course you will get better mpg while coasting down the other side LOL

Well the vehicle is in for the mapping .I have had a chat with the guy this morning and asked about mpg and he says the reason it goes up is because the engine runs more efficiently. It will be running to its proper potential rather than restricted by the factory.Apparantly there set up from new to run in any country in the world and any grade of diesel weather it be **** deisel or a better quality deisel like we use.So in effect they are set up wrong at factory for general use in the uk but ok for countrys where the diesel is poor.PS don,t shoot the messenger

He's basically said that the fueling is optimised. Every engine off the production line is slightly different. However the manufacturer makes one general operational map. So by optimising the fueling for your engine, a gain over factory settings could be achieved. As to how much difference there is, is dependent on how accurate the original mapping was.
You'll need to assess the effects after you've driven it for a bit. ;)

Well ihave just got back with the FL2 after the map and what can i say.WOW pulls like a train changes into second and third before you know it and then into 4tha lot quicker than it did.Up to 70mph in no time as regards MPG i willhave to take her for a run see what figures i get.Its a lot better do drive round town too

I have a Ronbox or whatever they are called these days and I am sure I get better mpg.
I have the switch in the cab so have 3 settings to choose from.
I use the middle setting normally. Use Eco on very long journeys and highest setting if I want to drive like a maniac for whatever reason. :D

I am holding back to see how bad they are going to treat diesel drivers before making a decision on replacing my FL1.
I am hoping that they will be lenient with us and may well move to a FL2 and have it remapped.

Just been for a quick run on the motorway 30 mile round trip 15 mile on CC at 70mph and 15 mile back driving between 70 and 90 mph avg 34mpg

Was that using the dash trip computer? They aren't particularly accurate. My D3 would regularly show 33Mpg on a 80Mpg motorway trip. Using the old fashioned fill quantity vs mileage, it came to about 29Mpg. So the dash display was optimistic, by quite a bit.

i have checked the trip computer before against the old way of fill up do 100 miles then fill up again and found it pretty accurate but i will check again

That's good. My D3 computer was about 10% optimistic.

A remap could potentially make the trip computer inaccurate.

I can squeeze up to 550 miles out of a tank full on my TD4 if I am careful.

No idea what that is mpg wise.

Just checked out the trip computer.filled the motor up to the top did !05 miles mainly dual carriage way the trip computer showed 35.1 mpg .Went to the garage anf filled her back to the top it took 13 litres thats 36mpg so not far out
