I am in the market for a bigger car and I am looking to get a Freelander 2, I love the look and the ride.
I nearly had one a few years ago, though that would have been a Freelander 1 - because everyone told me they would be unreliable and expensive. I ended up getting a Rav 4 and that ended up costing me a pretty penny in repairs.

Everyone I speak to is telling me to stay away from Landrover again and saying to get a petrol estate.

I don't have much money so will be looking at around 2006 and 100k miles (sub £6k) is this going to be a bad purchase? I assumed being british the parts would be cheaper than my current car (BMW).
 
There is great support for older, less exotic Land Rover models through the likes of Britpart and Bearmach.

I like to think that once they're over the 100,000 mile point, they've either been totally rebuilt, or have had it through neglect. Freelanders seem to be a bit of a labour of love, and just like love, it often ends in tears.....
 
100K miles in itself is nothing to worry about, especially if it's been serviced on schedule.
Personally I'd get a good condition, top spec FL1 and keep some pennies in the bank for those unexpected expenses. That's safer than stretching yourself on cheap and potentially costly and complex FL2. Just my thoughts though.
 
I agree with Nodge there.
Whilst there are a lot of common issues with the FL1, it is a much simpler vehicle and parts are plentiful and (comparatively) cheap. It's capable and comfortable and with the help of a place like this, the majority of issues can be solved at home. The FL2 is much more refined but I can't help but think that some of the gremlins may be much more difficult to nail down.
