Hi all

Just got Disco 2 TD5 Auto for the first time.:p 93k and going strong till Sunday!

Motor just died on me, managed to get off the road and had to be recovered home. Think i know the problem for this. It felt like fuel starvation when it stopped and since then i have tested for fuel at the engine. No fuel so i found that the pump was not priming when ignition in position 2. With the ingnition in position 2 and thumping the underside of the fuel tank the pump lept into action. Well it made pumping noises and i could hear fuel entering the block. Been through the bleed procedure (30 second on and 15 second off 6 times) but still refuses to start.

I have a warning light that sems to have come on since the fuel issue. Can't really see how they could be conected though. The warning lights are the manual light and the sport mode light (It's an Auto). With ignition in position2 they both light up solid for three second then as the usual lights go off they both begin to flash simultaneously.

As i say i got her recently and not sure if they all do this till the engine has fired?

The handbook says to seek professional help if this happens but it seems to suggest whilst driving. Says its a fault with the automatic transmission wiring in the book!

Anyway should the lights be flashing after the other lights have gone out when ignition is in position 2?

Is there any way the two issues could be related?

Help needed!

Cheers

Firstly hi and welcome!

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with your first Disco. The M and S lights coming on like that can be caused by a discharged battery, try charging the battery out of the truck over night and then seeing if the issue disappears. There are other causes (if you do a search on M and S lights) however given what you describe, I would bet that your battery has run down a bit.

Good luck.

Why do they insist on keeping location secret.Cant help if we dont know where you are.sounds like fubard pump and you could do with being plugged into nanocom or hawkeye. could be someone nearby if we knew where nearby was.

Hi Chris it does sound like your in-tank fuel pump is on the blink. I reckon you need to take it out and clean the white nylon gauze filter at the base of the pump. Take careful note of the position of the fuel float as you remove the pump. Also you need to know that they are spring-loaded so when re-installing they have to be pressed down to refit.

The easiest way to do this is to cut the carpet from front to back of the boot along it's middle axis, then fold the two sides back and you see the round access hatch.

Re the other problem, charge the battery overnight and see if that helps - it often does!

Good luck
Dave

Ps It's normal forum protocol to go to the "Introduce yourself" section before asking for help, or you might get jumped on:eek:

Thanks for the replies guys.

I will try the battery tonight but i had just done that before noticing the lights. Having said that i had tried to start it quite a lot so it wasn't at full power by the time i noticed the lights.

I have ordered a new pump today and will replace at the weekend assuming it arrives tomorrow as promised.

I'll put the pump in a see if that sorts out the starting. Thinking about it the pump does sound very noisy when it does start up!

I'll then tackle the lights issue but if there are people in my area that could link up the hawkeye etc i would really appreciated being put in touch with them.

I have update my profile with my location. I am in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

I'll let you all know how i get on.

Cheers

Who cares where he/she is?

A friend of mine had exactly same thing, right down to hitting the tank and pump springing to life. New pump sorted it. As said you've probably got little charge after loads of cranking, which is why the lights are on.

Hi all

Sorry it's been a while.

Fitted new pump on fully charged batery and got it going.

Lights disappeared.

Was ticking over for about 15 min while i tidied tools etc but it then cut out.

Got new fuel filter and ended up having to get a water sensor. Fully charged batery and got it going again although very difficult to start. Idled for about ten min then cut out again. turning over strongly but won't start.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Chris
