Knees are suffering a bit these days (arthritis). Thinking about a clutch booster, basically a servo that lightens the pedal. Anybody had any experience of the Red Booster types? Do they work, are they worth it?

Nope. But I did try to get in touch with to see if "it" would fit a D1 ..... and they didn't even reply.....:rolleyes:

Nope. Not at all IMO - I did it myself, all in for £100 :) ..... even wrote a thread up on here anorl:-

I remember a few years ago someone on here installed 1 on a td5 and said it was wonderful. Can't remember who
 
Fit an LOF Clutch POWERmaster (or slave depending what defender you have) and assist spring.

I fitted one recently for the same reasons and it’s astounding. I can do the clutch pedal with one finger now!

Total cost about £55
 
I have fitted quite a few to landrovers , and earlier landcruisers , just used the mini or mg brake remote booster you can get a kit from HK for about £70 .
 
I fitted a standard Lockheed remote servo to my Discovery 200tdi clutch line in 1990,
It made a massive difference to the clutch load,
I also have a 92 Discovery without a servo that became very uncomfortable in heavy traffic to the extent I would
Slip it into low range and just creep along to save my left leg,
I am putting my early Discovery 1 back on the road This year and pleased to say the Lockheed servo is still working fine, And yes it easily fitted in front of the Brake master, can post a pic if anyone is interested,

Yes! :) - all adds to the info on here - wiv my thread, and the threads about the LOF master & slave upgrades - should help anyone with knee problems...

Though, as I've said, mine is auto :) , so that problem has gone away - and SWMBO's will be auto soon - she's not using it ATM due being orft work due some virus thingy ;)

I’ve had a Red Booster in my TD5 Defender for about two years now, one of the best mods I’ve had done
 
First of all if your clutch has done 100,000 miles then fitting a new one will make it about 25% lighter.
Second you can fit the £20 clutch assist spring which further lightens the pedal action by about 30%.
After doing both on our Defender TD5 the clutch pedal is now much lighter.

The LOF master/slave cylinders are good but they increase the pedal travel which can be a problem unless the pedal is adjustable, particularly with a new clutch.

I fitted the LOF master and it was set to the same positions, if there was any difference it was a matter of a few mm.

It works by increasing the diameter of the piston, so will take more movement of the pedal to operate the clutch.
LOF on their website advise care when fitting one together with a new clutch in Discovery’s.

But, as yours works fine then that’s great. It’s a good idea.
