Sorry, don't know where to post this, I'm new.
Need advise. Green flag towed my Discovery TD5 auto about 2 miles last night. Will this have done any damage? Engine running and in Neutral.

Don't know anything about autos but someone will be along shortly

Welcome :)

I would think you are fine. Most auto can be towed a short distance at low speed in an emergency situation.

Towed my mates with the transfer box in neutral and engi e off as it had bin for a swim

(300 tdi) I now not all disco 2 have t box leaver

It would be most unlikely that any damage has been done, as the engine was running which means the autobox oil pump was working.

When you say the car was in neutral, do you mean the autobox lever was in N, or do you mean the transfer box lever was in neutral, or both???

All Discovery II's have a transfer box hi-lo lever.

i would always put the H/L in neutral for towing . so what was your prob? why the tow home if it was running ?

No unfortunately it was just the auto box in neutral the transfer box was still in high.
The reason for the tow was £20 of un wanted Petrol! So I put £102 of Diesel on top it seams
to have done the trick. I just hope I have not done any damage. Think I should change the filter though, any suggestions?

Define what you mean by 'tow'

Did they straight bar it, a frame it, tow it on a RDT (dolly that folds out the back of the van), suspend tow it (lift the front or rear wheels), or put it on the back of a flat bed?

what speed did they travel at?

It's always worth changing the fuel filter just to be sure.

Hi Ratty,
I was towed on a straight bar some 2 miles in traffic, so stop start and no more than 20mph.

There won't be any damage done at that speed and distance. I'd stick an auto landy on my straight bar for greater distances with no probs. I wouldn't take it above 30 mph though.

dont you put t/box in neutral

Yes I would but if the guy towing it had forgotten and only reached a max speed of 20 mph and was stuck in traffic I can't see there being an issue. The only ones I don't like towing are the rangies and such that you need to stick the fuse in. I don't trust electrickery.
