Hi all,

Getting ready for a clutch/DMF replacement  soonish and was scouring ebay for parts. Came across this company doing reconditioned flywheels (link). Has anyone seen and/or used a service like this? Thoughts? Seems a good way to save a few ££ but the catch is you send them your old flywheel or else pay £60. New genuine DMFs for the TD4 seem to be going for ~£320 inc. p+p so I don't know if this reconditioned thing would be worth the hassle?

Also if anyone has input on a good clutch kit this is much appreciated. Seem to be a lot of re-fab options here too. Not keen on the solid flywheel conversion, read some dodgy things about it.

Thanks -

I went for a SMF/HD clutch conversion, there's more vibration than standard, but had no problems so far

I'd be sceptical about getting a reconditioned one, most new ones come with a 1-2yr guarantee, can be worth its weight in gold, especially given the work involved in replacing the clutch/.flywheel, the labour is more than the cost of a new dmf

go for new mate, never heard of recon dmf, when fitting new dmf at work there never exchange products unlike clutch which can be exchange

Thanks for the input guys, though there is a 1 year warranty for this recon dmf it seems best just to get a new one.

What kit did you use for that SES88? Not worried about the labour as that will be paid for with my own sweat and frustration rather than conventional currency ;)

Tis a Valeo kit with a HD kevlar clutch, avoid the ****part kits, although apparently the clutch kits are decent, but still don't trust them

If you can find a solid flywheel, go for that IMO. Much cheaper, more reliable, downside is a bit more vibration at low revs.

Avoid it - simple. It is not possible to successfully recon a dmf. Better off sticking with the dmf otherwise you will more than likely be asking for trouble in the future. Solid fly conversions are also a bad idea as they have been shown to destroy gearbox bearings and in some cases cause engine damage as well. And before anyone says anything, I work for LuK clutches, so have seen the evidence of damage caused by solid conversions. Just remember that any vibration you feel after a conversion is being transmitted to the gearbox bearings, rather than being damped by the flywheel.
Why is it being changed? If the clutch is slipping the fair enough, if it is low mileage and has started rattling then have a high level diagnostics done as engine management problems will cause them to fail too.

Another word of warning too, avoid a company on ebay called Techniclutch. They allegedly sell LuK products, but do not buy from us. We get quite a few calls about them. Google them for any further confirmation.

Yeah the clutch is slipping big time, 125k on the clock but I don't know what's been done to her before as she has patchy service history. Best just to replace and then I know.

Believe thats the kit I have (I didn't fit it)

Would recommend doing the hydraulics at the same time since you're down there

Thank you, should I replace everything including master cyl or just CSC?

As said, change everything, means doing the job once instead of going back for the 30 quid part you didn't change first time round
