Looks like I'm going to have to replace the 300tdi cylinder head and just looking on EBay I'm wondering whether or not to go for a recon (skimmed and tested) or new. There is a company called Rajapack offering fully built up head and gasket set for £399. The gaskets are the correct ones but it's the choice between an original recon re-built or new. Just not sure. The new ones are said to be EU manufactured! Mmmm...

I'd plump for a genuine recon unit.

I'm very wary of these remanufactured items.

The genuine recon, is exactly that, genuine.

Replacement is a doddle, buy good a good quality head gasket.

Cheers

buy new ,if a heads been hot enough to need skimming you cant test whether it will move again once warm, you can get a new head for about 250 including vat ,valves are cheap and not difficult to lap in

Cheers for that. It makes sense doesn't it? I've just ordered one with delivery on Monday with a full gasket kit. Haven't done one since changing the head on an Austin Cambridge in 1971. Had the valves re-ground at ten pence each!

Thanks but I opted for the new. The price difference was so little and I spent the night wondering which way to go. The idea of a recon genuine head was very attractive but for a few quid more I ordered the new one complete with gasket set. But thanks.
