I'm fitting a new clutch on my defender 200tdi. The engine is out and the release bearing had failed. Bought a new clutch kit by AP (used to be borg &beck)which includes the release bearing from paddock. I've read some horror stories about bad quality release bearings. Does anyone know if the release bearing that comes with the AP clutch kit is any good? If not then which make shall I go with.

ap should be ok unless someone made kit up using poor release bearing did it come in a blue box

yes it came in a blue box with all 3 items in it. The bearing is in a sealed plastic bag.

i meant blue box just for release bearing ,ie a britpart bearing with ap clutch plate and cover

if its in a bluebox and its britpart bin it

Hi Guys,
The pressure plate, clutch plate and the bearing came in a blue AP box. the bearing came out of this box in a sealed clear plastic bag. I bought this kit from paddocks and I'm not sure if they are making these kits with Brit part bearings.

it would be ap then id think ,bp bearings come in their own blue box

I've also bought a heavy duty fork (not part of the clutch kit) which has the extra plate welded behind the pivot but it came in a brit part box! Any opinions? I don't want to fit a part that fails after 6 months after all this effort

I've checked the clutch plat and it fits the spines perfectly. I ve checked the spigot bush and that fits the shaft nicely without play. Any advice on the best method of fitting the spigot (without damaging it ofcourse)and do I need to lubricate the pivot or the fork pads? i've also read that some spigot bushes don't fit the shaft. having checked that it does fit I assume it will fit once its in its place. Any advice or tips would be most appreciated because I've never done a Landy clutch before.

make your own tool.......... round rod to fit inside dia of bushing and weld a washer to it so rod does not go past bushing depth and just drive it in
