All in title.

My beloved hippo wouldn't get out of bed this morning, just had enough power to unlock drivers door. Showing about 8V on the battery terminals.

Mate is fetching new battery from HalFrauds, will it be straight swap and back up?

I hope nothing is 'causing' it.
 
Bugger. I hope I have the radio code..
Nope. I don't. Didn't come with the car ...Will the manufacturer still have a record?

Nope. Looks like there has never been one.
I am hoping (but frankly not expecting) a call back from land rover dealer.

They say having the radio serial number helps, but how to extract it?
 
There are web sites that will give the code for free upon supply of the radio serial number.
Google is your friend here.
There are also many that charge.
 
OK, new battery in, radio lost code, but on putting in new battery there were sparks, even though everything was switched off. No wipers headlight etc etc.

What is the easiest way to rest if there is something flattening the battery?

There will be some sparks on first connection, as the rear window will drive down and the various ECUs will boot up. The only way to test the quiescent current is with a Ammeter. However this needs to be on a constant link from the battery, where it remains connected, after the battery is disconnected from the car. The Ammeter is then in circuit and will display the quiescent current being used all the active electronics. You can't generally just connected an Ammeter as the initial in-rush of current will cause the Ammeter fuse (if it has one) too blow.

The way round that is to connect the ammeter to a dead short, and then to the battery and the car, and then remove the dead short once the initial surge is over

I may do that in due course
 
Or use a Dilog AC/DC voltmeter with a current sensing loop round one of the main battery leads?

Radio wants a 5 digit code, but when I spoke to Land Rover dealer they gave me a 4 digit one
here are me details...

Vehicle number : SALLNABE15A454138
Engine Number : 82425761
Radio code : 2311 - as supplied by land rover dealer

They said take console apart or drop glove box to read radio serial number - use last 5 digits

Do I really have to take half the interior to pieces to change a battery?

I'd remove some of your vehicle data, like I did.;)

The radio code will be 4 digits, if it looks like mine in the picture I posted.

No you can take the radio out in 2 minutes.

Before I changed the battery on my old Kia I connected a motorbike battery to the rear power socket to keep the radio powered. It worked a treat.

1/. I don't care who knows what about the vehicle. Its not a Lamborghini :)
2/. According to the manual and the radio it is 5 digits.
3/. Entering the 4 supplied digit code does nothing :(
4/. Even the video that shows a radio being removed by stripping the console out takes more than 5 minutes, unless you have a better way?
