Its a great learning curve but it can be exspensive
to get to a new galv rolling chassis you are looking at 3-4k

I agree with most of the above, costs are what you make them.
If you start having to buy new swivel balls for example, they're not the cheapest of things and costs soon mount up!
Same goes for body panels, good ones are not cheap at all.
I think if you're starting with a vehicle in reasonable condition and you're refurbishing what you have then £1000 plus chassis is doable and still give you a very good vehicle.

The problem is for some people is where do you stop?
I recon I could of spent £8-9K on mine with ease, but I like to think I know where to stop.
The extra money would have been on goodies, or more expensive parts, I.E I'm fitting britpart super gaz shocks and could have easily spent 3 times that on something different.
I think that's a happy medium, and knowing where to spend good money helps.
Like I've fitted cortetco swivel seals as I don't want to be stripping them down again anytime soon with it being a reasonable sized job.
Same goes for buying Timken wheel bearing, oem bushes etc.

That all makes a lot of sense. If i do choose to rebuild, at some stage... Do you mind a cheeky pm to pick your brains Aaron? :D

No worries mate.
Ah, the first one I did, I learnt a lot from that one, was a cheap rebuild in comparison to my current 90 though

Yeah I guessed that, your other looked a lot more in depth! Maybe I'll do so,etching like that, like you say expensive parts for the important bits and the others could be upgraded in the future, especially as everything shouldn't be rusted to ####!

Where did you order your bolts from and how did you know which were the right ones?

Yes, they seem to get more in depth every time  and more money, I hope the cycle doesn't continue :brick:
No need to upgrade in the future unless if wears out, as I say I put a happy medium on mine (other than stuff that I want top notch stuff on, bushes, bearings, seals etc.) and confident it'll all last a very long time.

As for bolts, do you mean the lr specific stuff? I.E radius arm bolts/trailing arm bolts etc?
If so it's all ordered by part number, just have to look through the manual and find them.
But if you decide to go for it give me a shout and I'll try and do a list.

About 3.5k for my 90, on a galv chassis, and I paid a bloke to do the rechassis, with new bushes all round, galv cones and spring seats. I have done one myself years ago, ended up spending 7.5k on my old 88" - there's no end to what you can spend, but the essentials don't have to be a killer.

Mine was 2.3k plus the unecessary bits like roll bar, soft top, NAS rear step, bikini top and BFG tyres!

No new chassis here or even major component rebuild - just a load of seals, bushes, bodywork consumables and fiddly little clips! Costs soon mount!

Everybodies talked about parts costs but starting off almost from scratch here you also have to factor in tools costs (4th angle grinder an THE most important tool for any Landy rebuild). Note you also don't have a garage so the UK weather will hamper you coz even the pop up gazebos blow away with a meaty fart!

All said and done just go for it as I love still working on mine after 4 years. Maybe this year ....... :D
